As a protégé of Charlie "Yardbird" Parker, Miles Davis helped to take jazz to the mainstream music audience and beyond. For three years, he honed his skills working alongside one of the best. Davis went on to front a nine-piece ensemble that created lush orchestral arrangements for the birth of cool jazz. He started to move away from the speedy bop that was so popular and decided to play to his strength by playing with a more introspective direction.

Between 1958 and 1962, Davis played with many of jazz's finest musicians including pianists Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly, saxophonists Cannonball Adderley, Sonny Stitt and Hank Mobley and drummer Jimmy Cobb, just to name a few. In 1968, Davis began the process to a jazz fusion style and mixed rock with jazz, resulting in the iconic album Bitches Brew. In the years that followed, more incomparable albums followed and Davis became a cult hero, performing before packed halls across the globe.

One could argue that no single artist has changed the face of modern jazz music with his well-crafted jazz stylings he helped to revolutionize the face of modern jazz. His inventiveness, improvisational skills and a dizzying array of musical compositions had made him a star and he set new standards for what jazz could be and what it would become.
